UN Global Compact and Africa Corporate Sustainability Forum (ACSF) hold monthly roundtables on issues relating to business and sustainability in Malawi
The Malawi Global Compact together with the ACSF is currently helping to facilitate a partnership that would also involve the government, the business council in Malawi (the National Action Group) who would work together to facilitate the building of an appropriate enabling environment at the national level to ensure that business acting responsibly can contribute to economic growth and competitiveness in a manner that is line with broader environmental and social outcomes for the country.
Part of the programme of the Global Compact and ACSF is an initiative to hold monthly forums in both Blantyre and Lilongwe (Malawi) a on a given topic, with sponsorship from Malawian businesses.
In furtherance thereof, Mr. Sean de Cleene (Executive Director of AICC) organised two dinners in Malawi during January 2005 on the role of business in the fight against corruption.
Both events were attended by a number of CEOs, as well key government officials and the British High Commissioner. The dinners went very well and the participants enjoyed the focused but yet informal opportunity to discuss such an issue in detail.
Part of the outcomes of the dinner is that Malawian businesses have agreed to look at hosting a one day event on corruption and developing a couple of key case studies in time for the event. Click here to download the dinner presentation.
