The African Institute of Corporate Citizenship (AICC)  in partnership with GTZ and RBI will be hosting a 2 days workshop on Enhancing the Competitiveness of the DRC: Good practices in countering corruption – Private sector experiences and International framework” in the DRC on July 15 – 16 at the Memling Hotel / Kinshsasa DRC.

In 2008 the initiative “Responsible Business investment in the DRC” was launched in the DRC and, within a parallel process, in South Africa and UK. In both countries (DRC and South Africa) AICC was involved in the concept and implementation of the initiative in partnership with GTZ and it has also been integrated in the Steering Committees of that process.

In October 2008, during a workshop in Kinshasa, the DRC initiative agreed on continuously holding workshops for learning on Corporate Social Responsibility matters. It was proposed that the first workshop in the year 2009 should be about anti-corruption.

As part of its ongoing involvement in the RBI initiative, the AICC took the lead management in the development and facilitation of these 2 days workshop to give participants a better understanding of practices and current trends and to provide a basis for further detailed discussion on implementation of anti-corruption strategies for private sector in the DRC. The primary objective of this workshop is to support the Responsible Business Investment Network in the DRC in the development of a programme of activity to fight corruption by teaching participants about international anti-corruption practices especially in the private sector, relevant legal frameworks, and assessment mechanisms that are influencing behaviour and the perception of corruption in the DRC. The major goal behind this workshop is to empower companies to effectively deal with and debate the issues around corruption.
